Nappies, cots and caesareans: essential facets of modern parenting or damaging, isolating hindrances to a child’s development? Created for Five’s Hidden Lives strand Honey, I Suckle The Kids looks at the world of attachment parenting. The couples in this film advocate breastfeeding beyond walking and talking age, share the marital bed with their children, boycott mainstream school and eschew buggies in favour of carrying them in slings, all in the name of closer bonding between parent and child. With its back-to-nature, hippy leanings, some of its more radical followers have even done away with nappies and instead try to anticipate their little one’s every pee and poo just by the look on their face. It’s a growing movement but it’s not for the faint-hearted.
